AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club is proud of Jeanne Alexander and Tokkie de Kock who have been selected to play in the 2016 Port Natal qualifying masters.

Good bowling to them both.

The first of the floodlight bowls got off to a bright start on Wednesday. The veranda was packed with spectators watching a different form of the game, as Vince Marriott, Mark Brodie and Martin Birch emerged as winners. Thanks to Glen Scorgie for his organisation and to Alf Bingham for the music. The popularity of the evening looks to ensure that this fun game can only get bigger and better, so look out for the date of the next one.

The veranda was also busy this past weekend with bowlers from around the country playing SA nationals men’s pairs with some top-class games. Thanks to Mike Groom and Brian Crause for their organisation, and to Hettie van Niekerk for umpiring.

Eight Toti teams played in various clubs around Port Natal, but unfortunately none have gone through to the next round. Good bowling to all Toti men who are playing in the SA fours and singles this week.

Denise Bingham came from behind to take a win over Doreen Salmond in the women’s senior singles. Nita Meumann beat Marie van der Walt and Joan van Rensburg defeated Jackie Holdrick. In the open singles, Amanda Ninow beat Talla Stephens-Viviers to go through to the semis.

Greg McLeod beat Robbie Roberts in the men’s open singles. In a marathon game of 28 ends in the handicap singles, Alec Stirzaker defeated Ian Crouch to go through to the semi-finals; and Gustav Somers overcame Keith Berry.

At TGIF, Robbie Roberts won the 100 board. Country member Delysia Mitchley’s number came up in the attendance draw but sadly she was not there to take the money, so next week’s prize is worth R250. Tokkie de Kock chose key 47 in the draw; but unfortunately it refused to turn in the lock, so next week’s key is worth R6,450.

The list is on the board for women’s handicap singles and nominated pairs so put your names down as soon as possible. Cardings are on the board for games to be played on Saturday, 21 May for both men and women. Remember Big Chicks is this Sunday, 22 May, and mutton is on 29 May.

Many happy returns this week go to Glen Scorgie, Doug Walton, Jean Snyman and Leo Verwijk. All members who are sick are wished a speedy return to health.
