Toti grappling team makes waves at tournament

More than 100 fighters from all over South Africa competed at this prestigious event.

Toti’s Rio grappling team dominated a national grappling tournament which was held in New Germany on Saturday, 14 May.

“The goal of the GroundQuest grappling tournament was to submit your opponent with wrestling positioning and then applying joint lock or chokes until your opponent ‘taps out’ or surrenders,” said coach, Morne Swanepoel.

More than 100 fighters from all over South Africa competed at this prestigious event. CombatCoaching.com gym’s grappling team ‘Rio Grappling Club’ won the most divisions at the event, with special mention of one of coach Morne’s sons, Bradley Swanepoel.

Besides winning his junior division, Bradley also competed in the senior adult division. Winning all his fights in the adult division placed him in the final against current adult MMA and grappling champ Andrew Caruth.

It was a very close fight, with Bradley almost submitting the much older, experienced and stronger opponent on a couple of occasions. Andrew won the fight, but Bradley won the hearts of the spectators and fellow competitors with his outstanding performance.
