Friday was sundowner day, and the sponsored draws on offer are definitely leading to better turn-outs on the course.

AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club hosted a successful fundraiser last Sunday, with 125 players turning out to show their support for the club.

The weather was the best it has been for a long time, and made for very pleasant golfing conditions, and even better braaiing conditions later in the afternoon.

Winners were Gert Vosser, Johann Vosser, Wik van Wyk and Fasie van Niekerk with 96 points. One shot off the pace was the team of Frans Klopper, Wimpie Nel, Hannes Beneke and Steve Naude on 95. The teams coming third all had 93 points. Gordon Dunlop, Terry Cousins and Sue and Willie Boucher won the count out to come in third, followed by Les Brown, Chad Holm and Johan and Robert Roux. Fifth place went to Bruce Whiting, Clive Hill, Mike Igesund and Ian Bender.

Closest to the pins were Tommy McNaughton on the 4th, Brian Steven on the 7th, CVO on the 15th, and Ken Stephen on the 17th. Gorilla prizes for longest drives went to Bester Swart for the men and Estelle Binnekade for the women.

On behalf of the whole club, deepest thanks to Bobby Milne from Coronatech for the sponsorship, to the members who contributed in any way on the day, and to the players who turned out to support the club in its fundraising venture. One last huge thank you goes to the partners, better-halves and their children who came down to enjoy the club’s facilities.

Last Wednesday the midweek IPS competition attracted 27 players, and Colin Scorer took the high point on the podium with 38 points, followed by Kalvin van Rensburg on 37, counting out Jan McDermott for second place.

Friday was sundowner day, and the sponsored draws on offer are definitely leading to better turn-outs on the course. For the first time there was a longest drive on offer, and this prize was earned by Sean Robert, while new kid on the block Alan Bartholomew was nearest the pin. Barry Buckland won the competition with 21 points, counting out Errol Woods, and Hannes Beneke was third on 20.

Tommy McNaughton was the lucky-unlucky recipient of the R1,000 cash draw, sponsored by ET Rapid Response because as he had left the clubhouse early, this draw carries over to the next ET sponsored draw on 10 June.
