The nippers trained at the Illovo River this past Sunday and fun was had by all.

THE past few weeks have really been busy for Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club members on the competition front, with some great results being achieved at the various SA lifesaving championships.

First up were the juniors and seniors at SA champs in Port Elizabeth.

The juniors ended up 15th overall and the seniors 9th overall. Medals were won by Kelly Fell (girls U17 beach sprint first place) and Tyler Main (senior girls beach sprint third place) with many other top eight placings being achieved. Lots of fun was had by all.

Next up were the nippers at SA champs in Durban with medal winners being Keith Ward (boys U9 flags third place and boys U9 beach sprint third place), Wade Erwee (boys U10 flags second place) and Tiaan Lyon (boys U12 long run third place) and once again many top eight placings were achieved. There were many proud parents on the beach. Winkle nippers placed 15th overall and the pick of the teams was the U9/U10 age group, which came 8th in their section.

The club is extremely proud of all competitors, who should note that there will be a competitors evening soon, so watch the Whatsapp groups for details.

The nippers trained at the Illovo River this past Sunday and fun was had by all. Parents should note that nippers will continue until the end of the month with one more set of examinations and the prizegiving to take place.

The annual Winkle fishing ski competition takes place on 23 and 24 April with the weigh-in at Winkle Beach each day. Members are requested to help with catering that weekend and the committee thanks everyone in advance for volunteering. The public are invited to the beach that weekend to view the fish that are caught and join in the festivities.

See you on the beach.
