Tough fixture ahead for AGC premier side

A fourball alliance was the order of the day for the men, playing two scores to count all round with exception of the par five’s where all four scores counted.

THIS Sunday sees the Amanzimtoti Golf Club (AGC) premier league side open their 2016 season account, with a tough away match against Southern Natal at Port Shepstone.

The team is made up of Kalvin van Rensburg, Mark Cowie, Bruce Whiting, Bester Swart, Mike Igesund, Nico Muller, Jason van Rensburg and Sean Roberts.

Kalvin carries the captain’s mantle, and the club wishes the team all the best in their first league encounter.

The Toti B league team has a bye, but the Allerton boys will be hosting Durban Country Club Allerton 2 at home, and this should be an entertaining way to spend a Sunday, watching the wily foxes in action on their home turf.

Early warning to all members, the regulars and those who sneak out of the house at club championships time – this in the hope that their lack of regular play will equate to beginner’s luck and favour them in their effort to lift the trophy. This vital competition has been set for the weekend of 16 and 17 April, which is great news as it doesn’t fall during the school holidays.

This coming Saturday both the men and women will play their monthly mug / KZNLGA medal and putts competitions. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to ensure you get a game.

Last Wednesday 27 players competed in the IPS, with Nico Vogel beating Solomon Beneke on a count out, both scoring 37 points, and Bobby Milne in third spot on 36 points. The Friday sundowner nine hole competition was a tiny affair, with only 16 players venturing out, rather surprising as the conditions were superb. Top spot went to a visitor, A Hauptfleisch with 24 points, a mind-boggling tally over just nine holes, with Tommy Mc Naughton in second on 20 points.

The women played a threeball alliance on Saturday, drawn partners, with one score to count on the par fives, two on the par fours and all three on the par threes. Jackie Dunlop, Sue Boucher and Gerda Heydenrych won easily on 80 points, followed by Brenda Morgan, Jacqui Porrill and Delene Berry on 76 points. Nobody made the green, and quite understandably nobody made a two club. The beer raffle was won by Jackie Dunlop.

A fourball alliance was the order of the day for the men, playing two scores to count all round with exception of the par fives where all four scores counted. Winners on the day were the team of Kalvin van Rensburg, Mark Cowie, Bruce Whiting and Bester Swart (did somebody say premier league side?) on 108, counting out the team of Ronnie Nair, Clive Fryer, Neil Oberholzer and Nico Vogel. Third spot, one point back, was Norbert Dupont, Chis van Oudsthoorn, Hu Turnbull and Gordon Dunlop. Kalvin and Nico also picked up the nearest the pins on the 4th and 15th holes respectively.

All visitors are welcome to go down and have a game of golf at Toti, or even just hit some balls at AGC’s superb driving range facility. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to book a time, and a reminder that there are golf carts for hire.
