Lifies battle it out on the beach for KZN South champs honours

The public can see top competitors from yesteryear at the KZN master championships at Pirates Lifesaving Club, Battery Beach on Sunday, 28 February.

WARNADOONE Surf Lifesaving Club hosted the 2016 Lifesaving Association KZN South junior and senior championships on 20 and 21 February.

Old rivalries going back to 1927 were once again renewed between some of the oldest lifesaving clubs in South Africa.

After battling strong winds in the surf events on Saturday, the competition took to the beach on Sunday, making the best of good weather and sunshine. The judges decided not to send the swimmers back in the sea due to murky brown water.

After fiercely contested events, the overall final spoils and bragging rights of South Coast lifesaving champions went to Warnadoone with 12 points over Winklespruit Surf, with Amanzimtoti third and Scottburgh fourth.

Warnadoone U15 male and female had the upperhand on Winklespruit. U17 male and female section was won by Winklespruit and U19 and open section was won by Warnadoone.

Competitor of the competition: U15 female Adrienne Dickason –Warnadoone; male Troy Smith – Winklespruit.

U17 female Clio Glenister – Warnadoone; male Keagan Lloyd – Winklespruit.

U19 female Dana Erasmus – Warnadoone; male Jethro Gray – Winklespruit.

Open female: Demi Mason – Winklespruit

Open male: Landon Kruger – Warnadoone.

Amanzimtoti Surf will host the KZN senior open championships on 5 and 6 March.
