Compo tests nippers’ water skills

More than 80 nippers between the ages of 9 and 14 years competed in a total of 89 surf and beach events.

THE well-organised 2016 Lifesaving Association of KZN South Hypersure nipper competition was hosted by Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday, 24 January.

KZN South thanks the host club, officials, competitors and sponsor Hypersure.

A strong side-wash and some rough surf didn’t deter the young competitors as they swam and paddled their boards around the markers, some 80 metres offshore.

Well trained nippers enjoyed the surf with confidence, skill and bravery with a safety rescue squad in the water with the competitors. The nipper motto ‘fun in the sun’ once again proved to be spot on.

All parents are invited to take their children to local lifesaving clubs to join the nipper movement and be safe in the surf and on the beach.

A compulsory stop due to rain and thunder stopped the competition just after 2pm, but fortunately the weather and the far-off lightning cleared and it was safe to complete the final events.

More than 80 nippers between the ages of nine and 14 years competed in 89 surf and beach events.
