THE first game of the Hypersure mixed trips competition at Toti Bowling Club unfortunately had to be postponed to Friday, 22 January because of rain.

However this fun competition will still go on for six weeks, as originally planned.

Congratulations to Elsie Walker, Pam Chalder-Royle, Marie van der Walt and Maureen Griffin who had an excellent win against Heather Brown, Lynn Joubert, Maggie Robertson and Dot Liebetrau in one of the women’s drawn fours semi-finals. Well done to Greg McLeod, Doug Joubert and Mike Pitchers who beat Glen Scorgie, Mark Brodie and Eric Klopper in the semi-finals of the men’s nominated trips. Good bowling to both women and men in their respective finals.

Talla Stephens-Viviers and Gaynor Snyman have gone through to the second round of the Port Natal novice singles. Good bowling to them and the novice men on Saturday, 23 January.

At TGIF Peter Snyman won the 100 board. Christine Darley’s (now a country member) number came up in the member’s draw, as she was absent next week’s draw will be worth R400. Brad Cox unfortunately did not pick the correct key in the draw, so next week’s prize will be worth R6,110.

The 1st round of the mixed pairs will be played on 23 and 30 January because of a shortage of rinks. Check the board to see which of these days you are carded. Pay all competition money.

The winners of the Big Chicks were Herbert Hofmann, Gustav Somers, Steve Evenwel and Sylveigh Ananiadis; the runners-up were Colin Coetzee, Vish Studinski, Brian Cox and Maureen Griffin. In 3rd place were Lofty van Tonder, Marion Crouch, Julie Sutherland and Mickey Roche. First session went to Greg McLeod, Doug and Lynn Joubert and Mike Pitchers; and the 2nd session was won by Barry Simpson, John Hewgill, Robbie Roberts and Gladys Hughes.

Neville Roscoe, Owen Turner, Val de Kok and Trevor Dempsey won most bowls; and the 13th prize went to Les John, Paul Els, Nita Meumann and Andy Jones. The 100 board was won by Neil Oberholzer, Pete Shepard and Les John. Thanks as always to sponsors Brian Pascoe and Gladys Hughes, as well as greens staff, Colin behind the bar, kitchen staff, Talla and Lesley, and not forgetting Dave Gardner for his organisation.

Lists are on the board for Port Natal senior singles. Closing date is 31 January, and Port Natal women’s midweek league, where the closing date is 7 February. Also on the board is the list for skills training at the club, and for the Valentine’s mixed singles on Sunday, 14 February. Markers are needed for the Port Natal singles to be played at ABC on 6 and 7 February.

Birthday wishes go this week to Ben Venter, Leigh Callaghan, Gladys Hughes, Dave Kemp, Bernie Bretherton and Brian Cox. Good health and good bowling to all.
