Lifesaving clubs prepare for regional champs

The KZN south senior and junior championships will start on Saturday, 20 February at 2pm to Sunday, 21 February, with the prize-giving at Warnadoone Surf Lifesaving Club.

VOLUNTARY lifesaving clubs on the South Coast will host a number of regional lifesaving championships from January to April.

The public is invited to attend and enjoy the club rivalries going back as far as 1928.

Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving Club will host the KZN South Nipper champs on Sunday, 24 January from 8am. Children between the ages of eight and 14-years-old will compete in beach and surf events.

The KZN Nipper championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 February at Addington Beach. Nippers will also compete for a place in the KZN provincial team to participate in the Lifesaving SA National Nipper competition at Marine Surf Lifesaving Club from 31 March to 2 April.

The KZN junior provincial championships take place at Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday, 31 January from 8am.

Junior competitors from U15 to U19 years representing all the KZN surf lifesaving clubs will compete for club champions and a place in the KZN provincial side to compete in Lifesaving SA National championships in Port Elizabeth from 17 to 20 March.

The KZN South senior and junior championships starts on Saturday, 20 February at 2pm to Sunday, 21 February, with prizegiving at Warnadoone Surf Lifesaving Club.

Clubs from Amanzimtoti, Warnadoone, Winklespruit, Fast Track, Scottburgh, Park Rynie, Margate and Umtavuma will be in action to be named KZN South Lifesaving Club champions.

The KZN open senior championships will be at Amanzimtoti Surf Lifesaving Club from 2pm on Saturday, 5 March to Sunday, 6 March.

Not only will the top club honours be decided in female and male beach and surf events, but also up for grabs, a place in the KZN provincial side to compete in Lifesaving SA National championships in Port Elizabeth from 17 to 20 March.
