Goalkeepers training kicks off in December

Techniques, tactics, physical and psychological fitness will be tackled.

A COACHING training camp for goalkeepers between the ages of 14 and 24-years-old will be held in KwaMakhutha, from Wednesday to Saturday, 2 to 5 December.

The venue is Durban Coastal TVET College Umbumbulu in KwaMakhutha.

Goalkeeper coaching was introduced in 1998 by ex-goalkeeper Sipho Zimba who played in PSL clubs for Durban Bushbucks, Amazulu, African Wanderers, Umtata Bucks and Royal Tigers.

Coaching will be conducted by Zimba and other ex-professional goalkeepers who have qualified as goalkeepers trainers with SAFA level 1 – 2 licences.

“Since the programme was introduced, it has helped many goalkeepers who are now in PSL clubs, NFD clubs, second division and SAB leagues. The aim is to train and teach youth goalkeepers the good basics of goalkeeping at an early age according to their age groups. Techniques, tactics, physical and psychological fitness are tackled to prepare them to play professionally.”
