Cricketers starts season on right foot

U13 north team: The boys played against DHS Rhythm 1 at the S L Singh grounds in Parlock.

THE cricket season has at last kicked off.

Only five of the Amanzimtoti Cricket Club teams got to play this weekend.

These were the first and second teams from the seniors, and the U13 North side, as well as both the U11 sides.

Senior first team: ACC was hosted by Verulam in their first fixture of the season. The home side batted first, but was only able to score 105 all out in 17 overs. J Michaux took a superb four for 15 in his four overs. D Kupferman then led the batting reply with an unbeaten score of 63, and Toti was able to cruise to a seven wicket victory.

Senior second team: No results received.

U13 north team: The boys played against DHS Rhythm 1 at the SL Singh grounds in Parlock.

ACC lost the toss, and was put in to bat on a difficult batting wicket. Batting conditions were difficult, with the odd delivery staying low but Janko Roets managed to pick the bad delivery in every over and built up a great score of 47. Corne Nel and Luke Bowley added some good scoring too and ACC finished on 147/7 after their 30 overs. Some thrifty bowling from Usama Ghuman made it difficult for the Rhythm players to get into their stride. He finished with phenomenal figures of seven runs for no wicket in his six overs. Great fielding by ACC ended any chance of a Rhythm victory, with three direct hit run-outs, and three great catches. Always on the back foot, Rhythm were only able to post 92/7 in their 30 overs. Janko Roets was named man of the match for his great batting, respectable bowling and two direct hit run-outs.

U 11 north team: ACC played host to the DHS Rhythm U11 side at the Toti oval. Rhythm batted first, and were kept under pressure from the outset. Toti has great depth in bowling, and all the bowlers chipped in with respectable figures. The two outstanding bowlers were Zander de Coning with seven for two off his three overs; and a fantastic four wickets for only six runs in his three overs by man of the match, Jason Butler. Rhythm were bowled out for just 54 runs.

ACC’s batting reply went smoothly. The opening pair of Michael Russell and Connor Carson scored 26 runs each, with Toti winning by 10 wickets inside eight overs. The game was continued to provide a batting opportunity to all the players, and it seems that the team have good batting depth too. All in all, this was a creditable start to the season.

U11 south team: No results received.
