NOW that the AGM and prize giving for 2015 is over, entry lists are now up at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club for the first of the 2016 honours board competitions. The closing date for entry for the men’s and women’s drawn fours is Saturday, 11 October, and the closing date for women’s drawn trips is Saturday, 25 October. Competitions will be starting within a few weeks in order to get through the busy schedule for the year ahead.

In a quiet between-season week, the only competition played was a first round game in the men’s senior singles which is the last of the 2015 series. It was won by Dave Kemp, playing with his usual consistency against Peter Barnes. Other games in round one will be played on Saturday, 3 October.

With the beautiful weather last Sunday, members enjoyed playing the very sociable monthly mutton competition. The winners of the men’s competition on 4+27 were Barry Simpson, Don Saunders, Les John and Pete Shepard. Runners-up were Doug Joubert, Eric Klopper, Terry Morgan and Colin Coetzee and second session prize went to Greg McLeod, Ray Robinson, Neil Oberholzer and Coy Schrauwen. In the women’s competition Pam Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Val de Kok and Jackie Holdrick took the honours with 4+10; 2nd were Marion Crouch, Doreen Salmond, Leigh Callaghan and Adrienne Robbins; with second session prize won by Robyn Hutton, Denise Bingham, Leonie Mills and stand-in player Boet Els.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Lesley and Talla Stephens-Viviers, and the attendance draw by social member Gay Edwards who was not present therefore next week’s draw is worth R250. Mike Goldstone had no luck in the key draw so the pot rises to around R9,000 next week, so get your numbers early to be in with a chance.

Good bowling to all members playing in the PN fours at the weekend – go out and make Toti proud. Birthday members for this week are Nicky Stirzaker, Phil Perkins, Gavin McClymont, Stuart Pickles, Coy Schrauwen, Dudley Blount and Colin Coetzee. Finally best wishes go to all members and ex-members who are no longer able to play, especially to Ben Venter (Mr Bean) who was in hospital at the time of writing.
