WBC women make a clean sweep of twinkle trips

WINKLESPRUIT Bowling Club (WBC) reports that the 2015 inter-club championships have picked up momentum during the week with some nail-biting finishes.

In the mixed nominated pairs husband and wife team Brian and Trish Farmer narrowly beat Paul and Jeanette Els with one point in the final end.

Annalie Pienaar and Harry van Vuuren beat Martin and Elmarie Young with one point after having to play an additional end in the mixed drawn pairs.

In the men’s nominated 2-4-2, Martin Young and Paul Els were victorious against Allan Duncan and Brain Bodley. In the men’s nominated pairs Andre Gelderblom and Brian Cox had a tough win over Eddie Bingham and Harry van Vuuren. Freddie Hetterscheidt and Dries Snyman achieved a good win against Allan Raubenheimer and Brian Pasfield.

Thanks to the green maintenance team of Innocent Ndlovu, Dries Snyman, Brian Farmer, Eddie Bingham, Cedric Kruger, Gert Nel and Harry van Vuuren who fertilised the green on Monday, 7 September. Thanks to Trish Farmer and Sandy Snyman for supplying the breakfast.

The monthly Caltex twinkle women’s trips were played on Wednesday, 9 September. The women from WBC won all the prizes on the day. Hazel Willis, Joyce Mackrory and Elmarie Young won second session. Overall winners were Cathy du Plooy, Maureen Griffin and Sandy Snyman. Heather Brown won the 100 board draw and Lulu Bingham won the monthly mystery prize.

On Friday the Umkomaas 2-4-2 was played. The teams from WBC had good wins. Congratulations to Harry van Vuuren and Marge Erikson in winning the overall prize.

The night game scheduled for Friday, 11 September had to be cancelled due to the weather but the dinner was well supported. Thanks must go to Steve Evenwell and Di Kruger for preparing the meal. The attendance draw was won by Bill Hobbs who was not present to claim his prize. The prize money will be carried over. The 100 board draw was won by Andre Gelderblom.

The Steve Evenwel 2-4-2 had to be cancelled due to rain. The next game is scheduled for Sunday, 11 October. Good luck to all the players who are going to present Winklespruit BC at the annual Doug Watson competition in Margate on Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 September. Make the club proud and bring back the prizes.

Diarise the following: Social bowls on Friday, 18 September at 2pm and Wednesday, 23 September 1.30pm. As from Friday, 2 October social bowls will start a half hour later. Saturday, 19 September is the Clearwater Spur mixed 2-4-2 at 9am. Indicate your availability on the players list on the notice board. Thursday, 24 September is the men’s 2-4-2 at 9am.
