THE annual mixed fours festival took place at Toti Bowling Club on Saturday and Sunday, with 22 teams taking part and was a huge success.

Home-grown overall winners were Doreen Salmond, Eric Klopper and Alfie and Denise Bingham, many congratulations to them.

In second place were Glen Scorgie, Alec and Nicky Stirzaker and Jackie Holdrick, and coming third was Bruce Makkink from Westville and his star-studded team; and in fourth place was Lofty van Tonder, Noreen Butler, Barry Bush, Mickey Roche and Kathy Cox. Sessions prizes were won by the following teams: First Peter Barnes, second Julie Sutherland, third Jerry Gertzen, fourth Dallas Davis and fifth Boet Els. Heather Brown and team won the 13th prize and most bowls went to Jeanette Clarence and her novices. Well done to the teams of Bruce Makkink and Dallas Davis, who each picked up an eight on Sunday. Thanks to the visiting players for taking part from Winkle and Umdoni and further afield.

Thanks to the main sponsors Warwick Wealth, as well as Jerry Motley, Peter Callaghan, Dallas Davis, Bingham and Associates, Booths Bottle Store, Vince Marriott and Orange River Cellars. This festival could not go ahead without the help of Liz Morgan-Davies, Glen Scorgie, Mike Groom, Neville Roscoe, Jackie Holdrick, Dallas Davis, Talla and Lesley, Adrian and the kitchen staff, Colin and Dave behind the bar and of course DJ Smooth, Alf Bingham. Mickey Roche and his green staff deserve a special mention at the immaculate conditions of the greens throughout the weekend.

At the Kwikspar inter club mixed 2-4-2, the winners were Glen Scorgie and Jackie Holdrick; and the runners-up were Clive and Meryl Hambley. Julie Sutherland and Barry Bush won the first session; and the second session went to Duncan and Yvonne Wright. Keith Berry won the special prize of a R50 Kwikspar voucher.

At TGIF, Mickey Roche was the winner of the 100 board; Stuart Pickles’ number came up in the attendance draw, however as he was not present, next week’s prize will be worth R1,000. This is a must-win prize and numbers will be drawn until there is a winner. Mike Groom had the lucky number for the key draw, although the key itself was not so lucky as it did not fit the box. Next week’s key will be worth R6,700.

Tony Darley was the popular club member of the month for his photography, particularly of the trophy winners, which regularly appear in this paper.

Club competitions are being finalised before the AGM. On Wednesday, 2 September, Andrew Walker and Dave McMillan will play for a place in the men’s handicap singles final against Greg McLeod. This will take place on Saturday, 5 September. On the same day Val de Kok and Lesley Stephens-Viviers will pit their skills against Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers in the women’s drawn pairs final. Good luck to all players.

Also on Saturday, at Lahee Park, Toti BC’s team of Marion Crouch, Jeanne Alexander, Jane Coetzee and Amanda Ninow will be playing in the semi-finals of the KZN women’s fours at 9am. Good bowling to them and everyone hopes to see them in the final in the afternoon. Go along and support if you can make it. On Sunday, 6 September, the first round of the PN pairs takes place. Good bowling to all members taking part. Some Toti teams will be playing at home, so go along and support them.

Remember the AGM and prize-giving will be on Saturday, 19 September. Any members who need to have a proxy vote, contact the club secretary, Jackie Holdrick.

Nominations for committee members and office bearers will be taken off the board on Friday, 4 September at 5pm. Birthday wishes go this week to Gert Richter, Bobby Henderson, Nita Meumann, Trudy Hill, Elmarie Young, Andy Jones, Lynn Joubert and Bryan Mudie. Get well soon to all who may be sick at this time.
