Joan, Val win women’s drawn pairs

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,200 was not won as Errol Lorten was not present.

IN the only club competition reported for the week at Wanderers Bowling Club, Joan Bruce, recently back from a month’s holiday and her partner Val McCaffrey, won the women’s drawn pairs playing against Louisa McGlynn and Chantal Hearnshaw.

The score was 29-12.

On Sunday, 29 August, the Moth tournament known as the ‘Jackie Bollaert’ took place at Durban Wanderers and attracted a full house of three greens, 42 teams or 168 players. Congratulations must be extended to Lofty Cawthorne and his team of helpers for packing the greens and making up teams where there were shortfalls. Three games were played in all – two 10 end games and a final one of 12 ends.

Sessions were won by Peter Vink and team (first with 2+33), Des Hean (second with 2+22) and Neville Phillips (third with 2+20). Third place overall on 6+38 went to Gary Moffatt and team, 2nd place on 6+41 went to Roy Funnel’s side and the overall winners with the huge score of 6+54 went to R McFadden and his side.

The sportsman’s prize went to Moekie Wantelaar and side with 0-90.

Sunday, 6 September sees the start of the PNB men’s and women’s pairs. Three rounds will be played on a round robin basis.

On 19 September the women nominated pairs gets underway.

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,200 was not won as Errol Lorten was not present. The various meat pack winners were: Lamb pack and chicken pack Graham Jeffs, rolled beef Jackie Freeman, pork roast Val Hussey, rump steak Robin Grobler, chicken Ralph Reinecke.

The following members were winners in the monthly bowls draw: R750 Mitch Mitchley, R500 Mitty Chelin, R250 Johan Nel.

Durban Wanderers has entered 10 pairs in this year’s Port Natal men’s championships. The first round sections will be played on Sunday all day (three rounds) starting at 8.15am as follows:

Durban Wanderers spectators are most welcome to support the pairs at the various venues.
