IT’S always great to see new players coming into bowls, and the novice competitions give them a chance to show their mettle and get into the sport.

Amanzimtoti Bowling Club congratulates Dave McMillan on winning his final game in the men’s novice round-robin competition against Wessie van der Westhuizen to become the club’s 2015 men’s novice champion.

Runner-up in the competition was Shawn Sutherland.

The men’s drawn pairs also concluded this weekend, with Andrew Pearce and Wessie van der Westhuizen defeating Willem Pelser and Bobby Henderson in the finals to take the honours for the year. Well done to all winners.

In women’s drawn pairs, Mardi Dovale and Stella Erasmus beat Marion Crouch and Jacqui Fouché to go through to the semi-finals against Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers. In a close game, the score was even going into the last end, but Lynn and Michelle got the winning shot to secure their place in the finals next week. In the other semi-final Val de Kok and Leslie Stephens-Viviers took an early lead over Pam Chalder-Royle and Nicky Stirzaker. Pam and Nicky came back to level the scores on the 6th end, but eventually lost by only a two-shot margin. Well played to all four teams and the club looks forward to an exciting final.

Andrew Walker won his round two game in the men’s handicap singles against Clive Frank in a tight game, and then went on the following day to win in round three against Rob Troughton.

Marion Crouch, Cathy du Plooy and Val de Kok were the winning team in women’s trips on 4+32, with Mardi Dovale, Amanda Ninow and Jenny Greenslade runners-up. Second session prize went to Denise Bingham, Jane Coetzee and Sue Welsh. The 100 board was won by Maxien Barnes, and the ‘spider’ by Talla Stephens-Viviers which raised R154.90 for Hospice.

The men’s 2-4-2 winners on a count out were ‘Captain’ Terry Morgan and Mark Brodie with 4+18, and 2nd with the same score were Coy Schrauwen and Gerald Chalder-Royle. Second session was won by Phil Perkins and Jeff van Belkum.

In the men’s mutton Peter Labuschagne, Dallas Davis, Steve Liebetrau and Vish Studinski took 1st prize; Clive Hambley, Duncan Wright, Doug Walton and Trevor Zulch won 2nd; Vince Marriott, Dennis Hughes, Alf Bingham and Gustav Somers won the 1st session, and Jerry Gertzen, Dave Kemp, Terry Morgan and Peter Snyman won the 2nd session.

The winners of the women’s mutton were Noreen Butler, Michelle Pitchers, Gladys Hughes and Maureen Griffin; 2nd place went to Elsie Walker, Yvonne Wright, Maureen van der Poel and Debbie Groom. Julie Sutherland, Nita Meumann, Amanda Ninow and Karen Shepherd won the 1st session, and Jeanne Alexander, Jane Coetzee, Vera Broskie and Margaret van Belkum won the 2nd session.

Dallas Davis won the 100 board at TGIF, but as Denise Ingram was not present to collect the attendance draw prize it will rise to R950 next week. Jackie Holdrick’s number was again drawn in the key draw, but she still didn’t have any luck, so that jackpot will be about R6,050 next week.

The general notice board has been moved to the library section of the hall, so look there for information of competitions from outside clubs, and good bowling to all playing in the Toti fours festival this weekend, which promises to be a lot of fun. There will be a green available for social bowls as well, so the regulars can still come along for their usual game.

Birthday members this week are Anntjie Boag, Cliffie Hole, Lee Madson, Dennis Hughes, Ernst Ubleis, Martin Birch and Tokkie de Kock.

It was with sadness that the club leant of the death of Neville Doman. Deepest condolences are sent to his family and friends.
