NOMINATED mixed pairs and nominated men’s pairs both played to a finale last weekend at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.

In mixed pairs Pam Chalder-Royle and Brad Cox were in excellent form, securing very convincing wins over husband – Gerald Chalder-Royle and Bernie Bretherton in the semi-finals, and Mike and Debbie Groom in the finals.

In men’s pairs action, Ian Mills and Micky Roche held their lead through both games to beat Vince Phaal and Carl van Heerden in the semis and Peter Barnes and Mike Roberts in the finals. Well done to both winning teams.

Brad Cox carried on his winning streak in the men’s handicap singles, beating Bill Williams in round two, Mike Roberts in round three, and Alec Stirzaker in round four to reach the semi-finals. Greg McLeod defeated Neil Oberholzer in round four and then Leon van Rensburg in their semi-final game.

In the men’s drawn pairs quarter final Don Saunders and Pete Shepard lost to Willem Pelser and Bobby Henderson.

The winners of the women’s 2-4-2 were Maureen van der Poel and Jean Snyman; Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham were second on a count out, and Kathy Harding and Wilma Richter took the second session prize. In men’s trips action, Peter Labuschagne, Dave Kemp and Ben Venter won first prize, while Ian Shearer, Bobby Henderson and Ian McDonald came second and Bill Rawlinson, Keith Berry and Barry Bush were third.

Brad Cox had his sixth win for the week at men’s scroungers with 13 points, Barry Bush was second on 12 points, and Greg McLeod third with 11. Plate A went to Terry Morgan and plate B to Wessie van der Westhuizen.

At TGIF Lyn Joubert won the 100 board, but Dave Kemp lost out in the attendance draw because he was away playing golf. Next week’s pot will be worth R850. Martin Birch’s choice of key didn’t open the box in the key game, so that pot rises to R5,200 next week.

Birthday greetings go to Ian Mills and Adie Fuller. Reminders this week are for Bools Day on Saturday, 15 August and quiz night on Wednesday, 19 August. Good bowling to the 11 members entered in the PN singles which plays this weekend. Finally, the club wishes a good week to members past and present who are no longer fit enough to play.
