Doreen is senior singles champ at ABC

Most members will remember Trysie Jute who was a bowler and committee member at Toti, before she and her husband, Fanie moved to Gordon’s Bay in the Cape.

THE weather unfortunately meant that several competitions were called off at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club this week, including mixed 2-4-2 and muttons, and several carded competitions had to be carried over.

Congratulations to Doreen Salmond who beat Nita Meumann in the women’s senior singles final. Well done Nita on being a worthy runner-up.

Two exciting men’s open singles semi-finals were played on Monday afternoon, both of which went to 24 ends. Glen Scorgie defeated Peter Callaghan by three shots; and Greg McLeod beat Lofty van Tonder by five shots. Glen and Greg will face each other in the final this week, and the winner will play in the Champion of Champions this weekend, as will Robyn Hutton who will be representing the women. Good bowling to all.

In the men’s handicap singles, Innocent Sithole beat Doug Joubert; Leon van Rensburg defeated Vince Phaal; Ian Mills overcame Peter Labuschagne; and in a tight game Rob Troughton triumphed over Colin Coetzee.

At TGIF Jackie Holdrick won the 100 board. Bill Riley’s number came up in the attendance draw, but as he was not present, next week’s draw will be worth R750. Peter Callaghan’s number came up in the key draw, but sadly he picked the wrong key. Thus next week’s draw will be worth R4,265.

Congratulations to Marion Crouch/Doreen Salmond, Jeanne Alexander, Jane Coetzee and Amanda Ninow who are through to the semi-finals of the KZN fours, with the date to be announced. Well done to Julie and Shawn Sutherland and Colin Coetzee on winning the Wanderers breakfast trips trophy.

Most members will remember Trysie Jute who was a bowler and committee member at Toti, before she and her husband, Fanie moved to Gordon’s Bay in the Cape. Toti BC is proud to report that she received the victrix ludorum shield at the Gordon’s Bay BC prize-giving recently, where she almost swept the board of prizes. She won the open singles, as well as the nominated pairs and drawn trips, and was runner-up in the handicap and senior singles. Toti’s loss was Gordon’s Bay’s gain, and the club wishes her well for the future.

Birthday greetings are sent to Alex Clarke, Joan Gordon-Hughes, Corinna Troughton, Robin Donald, Dave Lombard and Vera Broskie. Get well wishes are sent to those who are not in the best of health. Good bowling to all who are playing in the Scottburgh August tournament.
