Brian claims Winkle BC men’s singles champs

With a score of 2+13 Peter Labuschagne and Dave Kemp won second session.

THE 2015 Winklespruit Bowling Club men’s singles championship was played on Thursday, 23 July between Brian Pasfield and Jonty Denysen.

Spectators enjoyed a nail-biting finish with sublime bowls being played by both.

The standard of play was exceptional and after 29 ends Brian finally won the finals with a score of 21-19.

On Thursday, 23 July the monthly men’s 2-4-2 was played. Teams from Toti Bowling Club won all the prizes. With a score of 2+13 Peter Labuschagne and Dave Kemp won second session. Overall winners were Duncan Wright and Coy Shraewen with a score of 4+10. It was Dave Kemp’s lucky day as he also won the 100 board draw.

Social bowls on Friday, 24 July was ended off with a divine dinner prepared by local chefs, Sandy Snyman, Trish Farmer and Lynette van Vuuren. Susan Erasmus won the attendance draw but due to her absence, could not claim her prize. The prize money has accumulated to R250.

Unpleasant weather conditions on Saturday, 25 July failed to deter members of the community who supported and enjoyed the monthly car boot sale. Thanks to the Kingsburgh Lions Club for overseeing the boot sale arrangements and to all who prepared the boerie rolls and pancakes. Remember to book your space next month, Saturday, 29 August. Unfortunately the monthly mixed trips on Sunday, 26 July had to be cancelled due to rain.

Good luck to all the players who are playing in the Scottburgh tournament from 3 to 7 August. Bring back the prizes. Note that there will be no social bowls during this period.

The AGM has been arranged for Saturday, 5 September. There are still club competitions to be played. Skips must make the necessary arrangements to complete outstanding competitions before end August, otherwise their games will be forfeited.

Diarise the following: Social bowls on Friday, 31 July at 2pm. Saturday, 8 July – monthly Scroungers. Sunday, 9 August – Steve Evenwel mixed 2-4-2. Monday, 10 August – Women’s Day mixed pairs at 9am.
