Toti women win Dan Draper

The key draw was not won this week; Mike Goldstone’s key was not the correct fit, next week’s prize is worth R3,185.

CONGRATULATIONS to Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s (ABC) team of Doreen Salmond, Marion Crouch, Jane Coetzee and Adrienne Robbins plus reserves Pam Chalder-Royle and Nita Meumann, who won the prestigious Dan Draper tournament at Wentworth Bowling Club.

And well done to Mardi Dovale, Julie Sutherland, Amanda Ninow and Val de Kok who came fourth. Also well done to Doreen for coming third against strong opposition in the senior masters.

In a closely fought game in the women’s senior singles, Nita Meumann triumphed over Pam Chalder-Royle after 26 ends. There were two tight games in the women’s drawn pairs. In the first, Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers beat Jenny Greenslade and Linda McGregor by three shots; and in the second, Marion Crouch and Jacqui Fouché defeated Jenny Delport and Denise Bingham, also by three shots.

In the men’s drawn pairs, Clive Frank and Martin Birch defeated Dave Gardner and Bill Williams, and Willem Pelser and Bobby Henderson had a close win over Mike Roberts and William Sithole. In the men’s open singles, Peter Callaghan beat Doug Joubert by one shot after 25 ends, then went on to win his quarter final game against William Sithole. In the other quarter final Glen Scorgie overcame Don Saunders.

Robbie Roberts lost to Doug Joubert by three shots in the handicap singles; Mike Roberts beat Terry Morgan; Trevor Zulch got the better of Barry Buckland; Alec Stirzaker defeated Dave Kemp; and Peter Labuschagne had a good win over Bobby Henderson. In the men’s novice singles, Dave McMillan had a nice win over Leon van Rensburg, and then lost to Martin Birch.

At TGIF Glen Scorgie won the 100 board. Dall Smith’s number came up in the attendance draw, but as she was not present next week’s draw is worth R650. The key draw was not won this week as Mike Goldstone’s key was not the correct fit. Hence, next week’s prize is worth R3,185.

Note the annual mixed fours festival takes place over the weekend of 29 and 30 August.Teams consist of two men and two women. The entry list is on the board. There are lots of prizes to be won. Men’s Scroungers is on Friday, 17 July, and Big Chicks is Sunday, 19 July. Happy birthday wishes this week to Andy McDonald, Peter Callaghan, Shayne Tocher and Willem Pelser.
