Tenpin bowlers give chase in KZNTBA tourney

Wednesday Millenium league leaders are Sewcharans from High Rollers and Newbies.

THE Kwa-Zulu Natal Tenpin Bowling Association (KZNTBA) hosted its final tournament for 2015 prior to inter-provincial team selection, at Dolphin Bowl this last weekend.

Thirty eight bowlers competed for places in the teams to compete in the three divisions later this year.

As can be expected, matters were very tense as the bowlers took to the lanes to bowl 10 games without a break in what was to be a test of stamina as well as bowling ability.

First to show were the favourites, Andrew Cyster and Monty Cordingley with a fine 506 game followed by the surprise pairing of Logan Naidoo and Dylan van Berkel on 489. For the women, Newbies Caitlin Botha and Maddie Serfontein surprised the more established bowlers with 426 followed by Tamika Matthew and Sue Bhagwandin 417.

In the second game however, there was a surprise showing from Pierre du Plooy and Jivi Sewcharan recording 524 while Andrew and Monty slipped back with just 440 pins, Logan and Dylan continued with a 470 game. Cheryl Hambrook and Lorraine Brazier had woken up by now and had a great 514 game. In the third round of games David Martin and Wayne Cyster had a 476 slightly overshadowing the 473 of Logan and Dylan. Gwen Hayward and Judy Bhagwandin bowled a great game of 465 followed by Caitlin and Maddie on 448.

By now things were starting to show a pattern with Andrew and Monty and Logan and Dylan chasing each other game after game with cameos from Theo and Donavan, Rick and Gansen, Zander and Collin, Paul and Craig and Jivi and Pierre. On the women’s side Caitlin and Maddie maintained their early performance and left the other teams chasing for the minor places with Gwen and Judy, Kimi and Suki and Tamika and Sue battling in contact.

Logan and Dylan finally took the men’s division by 267 pins from Andrew and Monty with Jivi and Pierre in third place. Caitlin and Maddie won the women’s division by 125 pins from Tamika and Sue with veterans Gwen and Judy in third. Well done to all bowlers who participated in this marathon event.

KZNTBA holds its AGM, banquet and awards evening on Saturday, 11 July when the teams to do battle in this year’s inter-provincials will be announced.

League news from ATBC and Dolphin sees Monday Taxi Trios with the 2 Hookers team in first place but both second and third place teams are making a concerted effort to close the gap, which is now down to 18 points. Soho league for the month of June was won by Vish Studzinski on a plus 47 from Katie Alberts on +25.

Wednesday Millenium league leaders are Sewcharans from High Rollers and Newbies. Thursday league is in the unusual position of having 3’s a Crowd leading the pack from Avengers and Hooligans. Juniors sees Tyla Holmes (this family never seem to stop) in first place followed by AJ Hayes and Chloe Elbourne, of the famous Elbourne clan, in third. Phantom league has Janis Holmes, yes another one, in first from David Martin and Craig Hooper in third.
