Power bowling rockets Cyster into lead

ATBC Trios championships will be held on Sunday, 19 July.

THERE is a bit of a gap at the moment, when tenpin bowling tournaments are spread out leaving the leagues to make their presence felt at the Amanzimtoti Tenpin Bowling Club (ATBC) and Dolphin Bowl.

The monthly meat tournament was held this last weekend with 10 bowlers arriving to compete for the hampers available to the best bowlers.

As has become the norm Andrew Cyster left the rest of the field in his wake with a fine display of power bowling, scoring a 214, 234 and 212 game totalling 660 pins and winning first place from a determined and competitive Logan Naidoo on 641 and Rocky Govender 621.

Monday night Taxi Trios still sees the three man team of Monty Cordingley, Stephan Sleigh and Andrew Cyster currently leading the league. Second place has become a highly competitive affair with only one point separating High 5’s and Pulse in second and third place. High scores for the week show Andrew Cyster as top dog with 260 from smaller dog Vish Studzinski on 253 and Theo Govender on 231. Women’s scores are also an impressive 213 by Sue Bhagwandin, 203 from Tamika Matthew and Lorraine Brazier on 202.

Soho Wednesday morning league, at the end of the first week of June, has Chalkie White leading Katie Alberts and Gwen Hayward. However only 13 pins separate three top bowlers so this could change dramatically.

Wednesday evening league has Conzad leading from Joyo and Sewcharans in third. High scores for this league were recorded by Jivi Sewcharan, 243 Brian Daventry-Bull 214 for the men and Gita Soorjlal, 237 and Debbie Fowler 201 for the women.

Thursday night’s Dolphin Doubles league once again shows the women out-bowling the men with Stacey-Lee Hooper setting a new lane record of 278, Bronwen Elbourne 245 and Lorraine Brazier on 224. For the men Collin Farrow bowled a fine 235 while Pierre du Plooy rattled 226 pins.

At the end of week one, juniors see Gino Corbianchi in first place from Ryan Hattingh and brother, Leo Corbianchi in third. Once again only 18 pins cover first to third, so changes are anticipated.

Phantom league has newcomer David Martin in first place from Uys van Aardt and Janis Holmes in third.

Staff league sees John Short, first Sammy Nel, second and Alicia Coetzee in third.

Upcoming events at Dolphin bowl include KZN tenpin bowling hosting the doubles tournament, their final qualifier for team selection on 28 June. ATBC Trios championships will be held on Sunday, 19 July.
