Eager athletes race the clock

Fastest home was the club's manager, Janine Williams in a good time of 54 minutes.

PERFECT weather conditions greeted the women and confused male athletes who lined up for this year’s Spar women’s race held at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium.

This year’s race saw more starters on the line than last week’s Comrades Marathon, which just goes to show the popularity of road running in KwaZulu-Natal.

A few of Amanzimtoti’s Run Walk for Life (RWFL) members were there on Sunday morning to test themselves against some of the top women in the country over 10kms. Fastest home was the club’s manager, Janine Williams in a good time of 54 minutes. Next home was confused male athlete, Justin Willemse in a time of 58 minutes. Ann Romani and Nelly James were hot on his heels in 59 minutes, with Roxy Legge and Giselle Hall home in 1 hour 8 minutes. Anneke Joubert and Annemarie Snyman were next home in 1.16 and Andelene Downs, who represented the walkers, finished in a fantastic 1.32.

If you want to learn to run in a safe and fun environment, call Lee or Janine on 073-271-1514 or go down to Amanzimtoti High School grounds on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons between 5pm and 6pm.
