Toti Allerton golfers draw even with Cotswold for top spot

A CORRECTION to last week’s Amanzimtoti Golf Club report – it was reported that the winner of the B division matchplay was Patrick Cruikshank when in fact the winner was Peter Tierney.

The Premier league team which played Royal Durban at Royal on Sunday didn’t fair to well and went down 9 ½ to 2 ½. The B division league team played Camelot at Papwa and managed to edge them out with a 6 ½ to 5 1/2 win.

Toti Allerton took on league leaders Cotswold at home in near perfect weather conditions. Morning foursomes went the way of Toti 2½ to 1½ with Patrick Cruikshank and Eugene Mbambo winning 5 and 3, Cecil Heydenrych and John van der Spuy winning 2 and 1, Tommy McNaughton and Mike Halse halving their match and Peter Tiearney and Clive Fryer the only losing pair, going down 2 and 1.

Afternoon singles got off to a flier with the following players winning: Patrick Cruikshank 6 and 5, Cecil Heydenrych 4 and 3, new recruit John van der Spuy 3 and 2, Clive Fryer 3 and 2 and Peter Tiearney 2 and 1. Losing their singles were Tommy McNaughton 4 and 3, Mike Halse 2 and 1 and Eugene Mbambo 2 down.

The pig was awarded to Mike Halse for going down 2 and 1. All in all, a great result for Toti Allerton which now shares top spot with Cotswold.

The women’s league team of Charmaine Stone, Gerda Heydenrych, Brenda Morgan, Gill Symons, Lass Davis and Colleen Smit played their first league game on Sunday at Port Shepstone against Southbroom, winning two games and losing one.

There were 23 players playing in the Wednesday IPS competition with M Rumbelow winning on 41 points, C Rumbelow coming in second on 40 points and C Scorer coming in third on a count out on 39 points.

Sundowner golf on Friday had 19 players taking part with S Roberts counting out A Bartholomew on 19 points.

Saturday the men played IPS. Coming first on 44 points was E Crots, with G Dunlop beating H Odendaal into third on a count out with 42 points, counted out in fourth was T Van Niekerk, fifth P Vickers and sixth P Wallace all on 41 points. Nearest to the pin on the seventh was A Barbosa with R Wilson on the 17th.

The women also played IPS on Saturday with Sue Boucher winning on 39 points and Colleen Smit second on 37 points. Jebby Dyson achieved nearest the pin on the 4th with Sue Boucher collecting the 2 club on the 15th.

The women’s Upper South Coast Seniors championships was held on Monday, congratulations to Brenda Morgan on winning the A division and to Sue Daniels for winning both the C division and the veteran’s trophy.
