Singles bowls results shows game’s unpredictability

The results once again prove that bowls is a very unpredictable game.

THE annual club competitions at Winklespruit Bowling Club are picking up pace with some surprising and unexpected results in the men’s singles championship.

The results once again prove that bowls is a very unpredictable game. Congratulations to Greg Dickason and Jonty Denysen on winning their singles competitions against veterans Andre Gelderblom and Allan Raubenheimer respectively. Eddie Bingham also managed a win against Dries Snyman.

The social bowls on Friday, 22 May enjoyed good attendance, ending the day with a delicious dinner prepared by Mooihawens. Joyce Mackrory won the attendance draw but was not present to collect her winnings. It will be a carry over for Friday, 29 May.

The monthly nominated mixed trips were played on Sunday, 24 May. The day was blessed with good weather and good bowls with high scores achieved. Second session winners were the experienced team of Bill Rawlinson, partnering with Susan Erasmus and Charlotte Kohl. Overall winners were Andre Gelderblom, Brian Farmer and Norma Raath. The 100 board draw was won by Elly Cox. The day was ended with a bring and braai which was enjoyed by all.

Remember to book your space for the ever-popular month end car boot sale on Saturday, 30 May at 8am. Go and display all your unwanted goods. Pancakes and boerie rolls will be on sale. Beer garden and braai facilities are available. Bring your family and friends. Call Greg Dickason on 084-923-4566.

Friday, 29 May – social bowls at 2pm. Saturday, 30 May – car boot sale at 8am.

On Saturday, 30 May, men’s and women league competitions start at 1.30pm. The men are playing at home against Bluff Bowling Club. Go along and support the guys. There will be no social bowls on this Saturday.

Sunday, 31 May – no formal competitions. Arrange your club competitions on this day.

Monday, 1 June – green maintenance at 8am.

Tuesday, 2 June – pensioners league at Umkomaas.

Wednesday, 3 June – social bowls at 1.30pm.

Thursday, 3 June – Kwik Spar women’s trips at 9am.

On Saturday, 6 June – monthly scroungers at 9am. Indicate your availability on the players list posted on the notice board.

Saturday, 27 June – Port Natal bowling clinic at 8.30am. Indicate your availability on the attendance list posted on the notice board. Cost is R30 per person. Call Harry van Vuuren on 083-455-0939 for further details.

Birthday wishes goes to all who celebrated their birthdays during the week. To all members who are ill, especially president Mike Kruger, the club wishes you all a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
