Mills bowlers lose national tourney final by one point

After lunch and a sleep on the grass, they went out and played, winning that game which put them into the semi-finals of their section on Thursday morning.

THE 45th Moth national bowling tournament was held in Durban this year and took place at two bowling clubs, Parkhill and Northlands.

The team from Mill’s Bomb Shell Hole’s first game was against a team from Pretoria vacant chair A and Mills beat them, also picking up an eight which set their confidence pretty high.

That was followed with a bye and the next day they came up against a filler team which took them to the cleaners but that did not stop their confidence. Mills then played the Mothwas, who again beat them. The morning of the third day the Mills bowlers started to feel a little down but there was no giving up. They played and lost again. This was looking very bad for them.

After lunch and a sleep on the grass, they went out and played, winning that game which put them into the semi-finals of their section on Thursday morning. This did much to raise the spirits of the team.

Mills played one of the other teams from Pretoria vacant chair B in the semi-final. By tea time Pretoria was 11/6 up. After tea, Mills slowly started to claw their way back but by the 20th end, were 17/17 with one end to play and one point to win. Unfortunately Mills could not get that one point.

Well done to team Mills Bomb of Barry Simpson, Mike Joyce, Bill Williams and Pete Shepard.
