Three fourballs brave weather for 3 Jacks and a Jill golf

There was some really excellent golf played this weekend as there were some very good scores.

ON Wednesday Umkomaas Golf Club (UGC) welcomed back Sue and Peter Boshoff.

It is always a pleasure to seem them back from Zims.

Wednesday was the usual individual stableford. The winner this week was Peter Williamson on 41 points followed by Andy Davidage in second spot with 36 points and Fred Welch took home the third prize on offer with 35 points.

On Saturday the competition was the monthly medal competition. The captain welcomed local visitors, Mike Harvard, Raymond Ntobela and Mike Hogan at prize-giving. There was some really excellent golf played this weekend as there were some very good scores. Results: A division first place, Viv Naicker 64 nett and second place Nelson on 65 nett. B division first place J Hulley on 66 nett and second place K Naidoo on 67 nett. C division first place Franco Scarpa on 63 nett and second place G Ioppo on 71 nett.

On Sunday the club had fun with the mixed ‘3 Jacks and a Jill’ competition. Unfortunately the rain did not play its part so some of the fourballs pulled out. However there were three fourballs who braved the weather and completed 18 holes. The scoring was averaged out due to the weather and the winners were Eric Morsner, Jimmy Spear, Hans Beuthe and Michelle van der Merwe. Second was Keith and Lesa Vergottini, Bing Opie and Dean Fisher. Third was Devlyn Fraser, Natalie Singer, Norman Mackay and Petros. At the end of the day, all had fun and enjoyed a family braai afterward.

Next Wednesday, 8 April there will be a Blue Wednesday competition where everyone will tee off the Blue Forward tees. The competition fees will be R30 which will include a boerie roll just before prize-giving.

The ‘Gerries’ play early on Tuesdays and Fridays at around 6.45am. Be at the club at 6.30am to get the special green fee rate, not forgetting that six pin is on Friday afternoons at around 9pm. There is always something to nibble on such as rolls with something braaied inside afterwards. This is great fun and very sociable.

A reminder to all that there are only a couple of tickets left in the ‘progressive dinner’ happening on 18 April, after the fourth round of the alliance league competition in the afternoon. Contact Annette Gillett for the dinner on 082-927-5013.

The club will be having a quiz evening on 24 April at 7pm sharp. They look forward to support. Find UGC’s website at www.umkomaasgolf.co.za
