Talla’s key opens R10,000 win at ABC

The mixed 2-4-2 resumes on Friday, 27 March.

AT TGIF at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), Leonie Mills won the 100 board.

Ken Leech’s tab came up in the attendance draw, but as he was not present, next week’s prize goes up to R150.

Excitement mounted as the ‘must win’ key draw began with R10,000 in the pot for the lucky winner. One by one the participants tried their luck to no avail – five were compensated by winning R100 each along the way. The draw went down to the very last key, and the popular winner was club manager, Talla Stephens-Viviers. Buy your tickets for the new key draw starting next week, which is worth R1,000.

In the women’s handicap singles, Tokkie de Kock had a good win against Nicky Stirzaker; Michelle Pitchers showed good form in beating Lesley Stephens-Viviers; in a closer game Robyn Hutton and Leonie Mills went head to head and peeled at 13 all, but then Robyn pulled away and won the game 21-15.

In the big chicks, the winners were Les John, Doug Walton, Mardi Dovale and Val de Kok; runners-up were Duncan Wright, Meryl Hambley, Yvonne Wright and Piet Barnard. The first session was won by Peter Labuschagne, Denny Denysschen, Bill and Charlotte, while the second session went to Doug Joubert, Clive Frank, Denise Bingham and Lynn Joubert. Most bowls went to Alan McGregor, Brian Crause, Jeff van Belkum and Linda McGregor, and the 13th prize was won by Terry Morgan, Tony Darley, Leon van Rensburg and Karen Shepherd. The 100 board was won by Doug Walton, Lesley Stephens-Viviers and Dave Gardner. Thanks as always goes to generous sponsors, Brian Pascoe, Gladys Hughes and Jerry Gertzen. The next big chicks takes place on 21 June.

Congratulations to the team of Greg McLeod, Ian Crouch, Mike Groom, Steve Anderson and John Winkler who came second in the fives tournament at Underberg and well done to third placed Glen Scorgie, Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills, Mickey Roche and Mark Brodie.

The mixed 2-4-2 resumes on Friday, 27 March. The list is on the board. On Sunday, 29 March, the Picardy Bazooka mixed tabs in competition takes place at 8.30am for 9am, at R20 per player. Non-bowlers are welcome, and there will be lots of prizes to be won. Contact Duncan Wright or add your names to the list on the board.

Good bowling to the women’s teams playing in the midweek league. Happy birthday this week to Peter Shepard and Brenda Mulligan. Good health and good bowling is wished to all.
