Warren shines in Cosmos ‘sufferfest’

On Sunday some RWFL runners took to the streets around Glenwood for the Stella Athletics Club 10km and 25km events.

SATURDAY, 7 March was a very long day for Run Walk For Life (RWFL) Amanzimtoti’s road captain, Warren Gibson.

He had made the journey to Secunda the day before to take part in the Cosmos three-in-one event.

This all day ‘sufferfest’ for runners consists of three events all held on the same day. Runners take the start line at 6am for the 42.2km marathon. This is followed by a 21.1km half marathon at 1pm and as if this is not enough pain for one day, the athletes line up for a 10km at 5pm. This was Warren’s first attempt at this gruelling event and he ran superbly. He clocked a new personal best of 3hrs 31mins for the marathon, then cruised in a good time of 2hrs 04mins for the half marathon and finished off with a quick 1hr 03min for the 10km. Not only was this a fantastic event to prepare for the upcoming Comrades Marathon but Warren also managed to better his seeding up to C category for that great race.

On Sunday some RWFL runners took to the streets around Glenwood for the Stella Athletics Club 10km and 25km events. Top finishers in the 25km were Nhlanhla Sihle in 2hrs 27mins, Roxanne Legge in 2hrs 45mins and finishing together in 2hrs 55mins were Sure Herbst and Sandra Pratt. Well done to all athletes who took part. If you would like to compete in your first race, be it either walking or running, feel free to call Lee or Janine on 073-271-1514 or go down to Amanzimtoti High School fields on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons between 5pm and 6pm.
