ABC’s Shawn and Gaynor go through in PN novice singles

Well done to Gaynor Snyman who won her PN novice singles game on Saturday.

IN the men’s nominated 2-4-2 at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), the winners were Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder; and the runners-up were Glen Scorgie and Peter Callaghan.

Les John and Ken Baker won the second session.

At TGIF, Talla and Lesley won the 100 board. John Allers was present when his number was drawn in the attendance draw; next week’s draw will revert to R100. Les John’s key was drawn, but sadly it did not fit the lock. Next week’s key draw is worth around R4,800.

The first game of the potato trips was halted after only a few ends because of lightning. Please note next week, players will start from scratch against the same team and on the same rink as last Friday. Let’s hope the weather will be kind.

In the men’s nominated trips, Colin Coetzee, Dave Kemp and Shawn Sutherland beat Greg McLeod, Doug Joubert and Clive Frank; and Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder and Mickey Roche defeated Vince Marriott, Ray Robinson and Peter Barnes.

Well done to Gaynor Snyman who won her PN novice singles game on Saturday to go through to the second round; and to Shawn Sutherland who has won through to the third round. Good bowling to you both in the next round, and hoping you can keep flying the flag for Toti.

Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Julie Sutherland and Mickey Roche were the winners in big chicks; with Vince Marriott, Vince Phaal, Andrew Walker and Leigh Callaghan in second place. In third place were Coy Schrauwen, Ray Robinson, Maureen van der Poel and Bobby Stewart. The first session went to Duncan Wright, Marion Crouch, Yvonne Wright and Lola; and the second session was won by Alan McGregor, Brian Crause, Jeff van Belkum and Linda McGregor. Most bowls went to Gustav Somers, Peter Snyman, Leon van Rensburg and Karen Shepard; and in 13th place were Pam Chalder-Royle, Leonie Mills, Betty Sawyer and Shawn Sutherland. Thanks to sponsors Jerry Gertzen of Orange River Cellars, as well as Gladys Hughes and Brian Pascoe. The 100 board was won by Noreen Butler, Les John and Dave Kemp.

Dates to diarise are: Potato trips, Friday, 23 January; mutton competition, Sunday, 25 January; and Barflies, Sunday, 1 February.

There are lots of members’ birthdays this week; wishing Doreen Botes, Ben Venter, Leigh Callaghan, Gladys Hughes, Dave Kemp, Bernie Bretherton, Brian Cox, Paul Steele and Wendy Shawe many happy returns. Get well wishes to all who are sick.
