Athletes are reminded to collect 2015 licences

The club appeals to members who are purchasing new running shoes and gear, to donate their old pair to the club, who will distribute to members who need shoes.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club chairman and committee welcome back athletes after the December break.

Members are reminded to collect their 2015 KZN licenses on a Wednesday from 5pm from Belinda at Lords and Legends.

Senior subs cost R360. The admin fee for new members is R50. Juniors subs are R120.

New club vests are available at a cost of R160.

The club offers road running, cross-country, track and field training. Juniors are coached by George Bradley and Riaan Vosloo.

Cecil Clark looks after the senior athletes every Tuesday from 5pm at Lords and Legends. He has designed a programme to work on strength, speed and stamina.

There is less than six months left to prepare for the 2015 Comrades up run, from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Athletes will now focus on longer club runs and qualifying for the event.

Nine members had a great 30km long run from Lords and Legends to Karridene and back via Lower Illovo, taking on the challenging Illovo Mill hill. They now have a fair idea that they all have to work hard on their fitness and endurance. Thanks to club captain, Chris for supplying water and coke.

The PDAC 25km run is on the Sunday, 25 January. The Sparkport 32km is on Sunday, 1 February. The NOSA Marathon is on Sunday, 8 February.

There will be a 30km training run on Saturday, 24 January leaving Lords and Legends at 5am. Athletes must wear their club kit. Water and coke will be supplied.

The weekly time trial is on Wednesdays from Lords and Legends. Walkers (8km) start at 5.30pm and runners (4km and 8km) start at 6pm. On Saturdays, there is a 11km run and walk from Lords and Legends at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners.

The club’s junior athletes, Dwayne Trollip, Anele Blake and Lisha van Onselen won seven medals between them at the KZN SALGA Games in December, where all districts of the province were represented. Lisha won two individual titles and was adjudged the best performer in the G17 age group.
