Netball ace excels for school, KZN and team

The fifteen year-old Illovo school girl was selected for the KZN U15 netball and action netball teams.

Kuswag grade 9 pupil, Valmari Jansen Van Vuuren has excelled in netball this year.

The fifteen year-old Illovo school girl was selected for the KZN U15 netball team, as well as the KZN U15 action netball side.

Valmari has made the KZN netball team every year since U12 and the KZN action netball squad last year.

She was invited to the SA netball trials at Fourways in Johannesburg during the third term school holidays, but unfortunately did not make the cut. “I was very disappointed I didn’t make the SA team,” said Valmari.

However, she was rewarded for a fantastic year on the court by her school at its sports awards.

She scooped the best U15 netball player of the year, best U15 action netball player of the year, junior sports girl of the year and U15 sports girl of the year awards.

“I was very surprised to win so many awards,” said Valmari. “I was expecting to win the U15 netball and action awards, but the other two came as a complete surprise.”

The centre or goal attacker moved to Toti from Pietersburg in grade six.

She plays action netball for the ‘Hooligans’ team in the Durban North super league and helped her team finish in third place for the season on Tuesday night, 11 November.

“I also do athletics. I run the 100m, 200m and 400m and I am a member of the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club.”
