Isipingo beach edges out attacking defense to lift U11 soccer trophy

Of concern to the organisers was the apathy shown by parents.

Spurred on by an enthusiastic crowd, Isipingo Beach Primary School lifted the Kajal Gokul U11 school trophy after edging out hosts Gokul Primary School 1-0 in a keenly contested soccer tournament on Saturday, 1 November.

Isipingo Beach scored early in the first half and defended their lead to the final whistle, although Gokul threw everything into their attack in the second half.

“The brand of football displayed during this tournament augurs well for the future of football in the Isipingo area and tournament director, South African Soccer Federation (SASF) legend, Vincent Pillay was instrumental in conducting a very professional tournament,” said Isipingo Soccer Legends convenor, Bull Govender.

“Gokul Primary School principal, Niren Naidoo congratulated all concerned in making this school tournament the highlight of the Gokul sports calendar.

Of concern to the organisers was the apathy shown by parents, who need to be more pro-active in promoting school boy soccer.”

A group of footballers selected by SASF legends, Mike Moodley and Super Naidoo, will receive coaching, with the aim of forming a coaching academy.

“Event co-ordinators Mark Gounder, Ronnie Vengan, Calvin Govender and Eddie Muthusamy are also working to form a junior soccer league.”
