Football day to unearth hidden talent

Developing schoolboy soccer talent is the primary focus of the Isipingo legends.

Isipingo Soccer Legends, together with Gokul Primary School ex-pupils, host a football and cultural day at the school on Saturday, 1 November from 8am.

“Developing schoolboy soccer talent is the primary focus of the Isipingo legends,” said Isipingo Soccer Legends convenor, Bull Govender.

“We will host a soccer tournament, together with the South African Soccer Federation (SASF) legends for the under 11 age group.”

Participating schools include Kamalinee Primary, Orissa Primary, Isipingo Beach Intermediate and Windy Heights Primary.

“It promises to be a day where skills and hidden talent will be in abundance and the stars of tomorrow will emerge.”

The event came about after discussions at the Isipingo Soccer Legends reunion dinner and dance at Isipingo Hills hall in August.

“Isipingo Legends want to develop footballers at a grassroots level,” said Bull.

“We make a passionate appeal to ex-pupils and families to come in their numbers to join in the festivities to make it a memorable day in the history of Gokul Primary School.”

A highlight of the day will be a clash between a Stanger invitational team, who are celebrating their 50 year anniversary, and an Isipingo Soccer Legends team.

Senior citizens from the area will also be entertained during the event with dance and music.

“This is an event not be missed, with Tony Outar of classic vintage car fame, recording artist Sidney Naidoo and international acclaimed cartoonist Nanda Soobben in attendance.”

SASF legends, Super Naidoo, Vincent Pillay, Mike Moodley and Gopi Naidoo, together with Isipingo Legends, will cheer on the schoolboys from the sidelines.
