Women inter-club golfers rule Toti GC’s fairways

To men and non-playing women who are giving of their time to cater and serve the guests, the club thanks you all in advance.

THE time is now Amanzimtoti Golf Club.

More than 200 women golfers have set up temporary residence in Amanzimtoti and its surrounds, and are tackling the stunning Toti golf course as we speak, in the hopes of lifting the silverware for their respective divisions by the close of play on Saturday.

Kwazulu Natal Ladies Golf Association, Amanzimtoti Country Club and its members welcome all visitors to the event, and trust that they will enjoy their stay, enjoy the hospitality, and above all the golf.

To men and non-playing women who are giving of their time to cater and serve the guests, the club thanks you all in advance.

Mention must be made of the men who are being ousted from Toti club to allow KZNLGA the courtesy of the course – it would be good to see them come down to support the club women over the three days, and see firsthand exactly what the women’s inter club is all about. And yes, that is a challenge.

Last Wednesday there was a superb turnout of 38 players competing for IPS honours. Johan Roux took top spot on 38 points, followed by Brian Stewart on 37. On Friday afternoon the weather played a huge role, and only nine brave souls ventured out to contest the sundowner nine hole competition. Robert Roux finished tops with 20 points, quite obviously unaffected by the inclement conditions.

On Saturday the women played IPS, and Jacqui Porrill led the field home with a solid 37 points, with Jebby Dyson taking second place on 34 points. Gerda Heydenrych had a two club on the 4th hole, and Sue Daniels was nearest the pin on the 17th.

The men played a 4BBB bonus bogey format, with 60 players contesting. Winners on a useful +12 score were chairman Mike McGregor and Preston Khomo, followed by Bruce Whiting and Simon Moriarty on +10. Counted out into third spot were Dave Finch and Craig Moriarty, also on +10. Les Brown and Des Finley took the two nearest the pins on the 7th and 17th respectively. The jackpot was not won, and Jimmy Corr lost out on the attendance draw.

From next Saturday, life will return to normalcy at Toti Golf Club, and no doubt, members will come rushing back to reclaim their regular seats in the pub.

But until then, the club looks forward to the women ruling the fairways.
