SAPPHIRE Coast Pool league results for Wednesday, 17 September:
Sapphire Cove A won the first round against Silver Dollar B.
Silver Dollar B took the second round.
The teams were evenly matched as the third round’s points were shared. Sapphire Cove A proved their skills, taking a clear fourth round. Sapphire Cove A’s Mark Russell and Mike van Heerden each took three of their four games. A split in the doubles left the more skilled Sapphire Cove A team with a safe 11-7 victory.
A spectacular score was run up by Silver Dollar A as they toyed with Moulin Rouge B, leaving them with nothing. Barry Hill, Deon Pool, Nico Davies and Andries Coetzer all had glorious full houses and for safe measure, cleared both black balls in the doubles games. Silver Dollar A took a striking score of note with an 18-0 victory.
Ollies A and B managed an even first round. Caught off guard, Ollies B sailed through the second round, but couldn’t keep the lead in the third round. With Ollies B taking lead in the fourth round, scores were even again, putting more stress on the doubles games. Ollies B’s Levin Poonan took a full house and opponent Rajen Naidoo took three of his four games. With neither team dominating the game, the outcome was a final safe 9-9 score.
A very close game ensued as Reef D took the first round against Warnadoone D. The second round went to Warnadoone D and scores were even. Another winning round had Reef D with a two point lead. An even fourth round could still be a draw if Warnadoone D’s skills were sharp enough in the doubles games. Reef D’s Clint Mooiman’s skill scored an easy full house and Johnny Roets took three of his four games.
Needless to say, Reef D made mincemeat of Warnadoone D, taking both doubles games with ease, and scoring a hard-earned 11-7 victory.
