Winkle BC prepares for Bools Day bowls

Birthday wishes this week goes to John Powell, Hazel Willis, Di Kruger and Gert Nell.

LAST Monday, 4 August to Friday, 8 August Winklespruit Bowling Club was one of the clubs that hosted the annual Scottburgh tournament.

The president thanks the committee, members and their spouses who helped to make the week a great success.

A special thank you goes to Innocent the green keeper. The club had numerous compliments on the condition of the green.

Congratulations to Cheryl Knight from Hibberdene on winning the hamper raffle. Well done to Annalie Pienaar, Trish Farmer, Elmarie Young and Sandy Snyman for finishing in 11th place.

On Thursday, 31 July in the Clearwaters Spur men’s 2-4-2, the second session was won by Eddie Bingham and Martin Young, with the overall winners being Doug Walton and Gerald C-Royle. The 100 board went to a visitor Ray Lee, who donated his winnings to the club.

Last Friday’s attendance draw was a rollover as Piet du Toit was not present.

On Sunday, 10 August in the Lincoln Steakhouse mixed 2-4-2, the first session winners were Estelle van der Merwe and Piet du Toit. The second sesssion went to Freddy Hetterscheidt and Maureen Freeman, the overall winners were Andre Gelderblom and Norma Raath. The 100 board was won by Brian Bodley.

In this week’s club nominated mixed pairs Gladys Yelland and Freddy Hetterscheidt beat Martin and Elmarie Young. In the mixed nominated pairs 2-4-2 Mike and Di Kruger beat Mac and Joyce Mackrory and Elaine Critchlow and Freddy Hetterscheidt beat Aubrey Toy and Maureen Griffin. In the drawn mixed 2-4-2, Martin Young and Annalie Pienaar beat Sonny Brunsdon and Norma Raath.

All competitions are carded. The prize-giving date is on Saturday, 6 September at 9am.

On Saturday, 16 August there will not be social bowls in the afternoon. Winklespruit Bowling Club will be one of the clubs to host the Bools Day at 9am.
