Lizette to run 420km to raise funds

Lizette Botha one of our star athletes are busy running to collect money for Emma she is an 18 month old baby busy fighting cancer.

TO Run Walk For Life (RWFL) runners who participated in races over the past two weeks and completed them, well done.

Warren Gibson had a magic run at the cross country league, keep it up Warren.

Lizette Botha one of the club’s star athletes is busy running to collect money for Emma, an 18-month-old baby fighting cancer. How Lizette is doing this is that she has run the Comrades (89km) and will next run the longest day, 12 hours around the track (about 100km) on 26 July and on 19 and 20 September, the 100 miler (161km), 24 hour circuit race in Pietermaritzburg.

She will only take an hour’s rest from Maritzburg to Toti where she will complete her quest by running some 10 hours (+-70 km) at the CANSA Relay at Kingsway High School. If all goes well she would have run 420km to collect money for CANSA.

The club urges companies, families and schools to support Lizette by pledging money towards this cause, sponsor her per kilometre, make a donation as her famous saying is while she is healthy and has a body she will put it to use to help those in need. The club is 100% behind her.

RWFL challenges any person, unfit, overweight or inactive to start walking with the following goal in mind, to be able to complete a 10km race within or after three months training. The club will support you all the way.

Despite the cold weather it is a pleasure to see many athletes, young and old turn-up for training. Remember if you have a body you are an athlete, all you need to do is to set yourself a goal, get off the couch and start training, before you know you will be a healthy fit person, if you wait for the perfect weather to train and or exercise it will never happen. Hope to see more of you at training on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Amanzimtoti High School from 5pm until 6pm.

Saturday, 20 September is the new date for the CANSA relay which starts at 5pm and goes through the night to Sunday morning at 5am. We have five teams this far, 10 members per team. Put your name down for this prestigious event, the public is welcome to join us. This is not a race, but a fun event to honour those living, dead or survivors of cancer.

RWFL challenges schools, sports clubs, companies, school sports teams or families to either to get a team and or better its five-team entry.
