RUN Walk for Life (RWFL) Toti reminds members of its mid-year winding down weekend away which takes place this coming weekend at Midmar Dam’s Morgenzon camp site.

Join in a relaxing weekend where the club will set its plans in motion to plan fundraising and training for the second part of the year. While the Comrades athletes are recuperating, others athletes are carrying on.

All five of RWFL’s novices who completed the Comrades are all healthy and in good spirits. RWFL was saddened to hear of fellow runner, L Du Preez of Magnolia Club, who died on Sunday, 8 June, after collapsing on Sunday, 1 June at the finish line of this year’s Comrades while completing his second ultra marathon. Condolences go out to his family and fellow club members.

RWFL challenges everyone to start walking and getting fit.

Despite the cold weather, it is a pleasure to see how the young and old athletes turn up for training. RWFL trains on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Amanzimtoti High School from 5pm to 6pm.

Saturday, 20 September is the new date for the CANSA Relay which starts at 5pm and goes through the night to Sunday morning at 5am. RWFL has four teams thus far. With 10 members making up a team, you are still welcome to sign up for this prestigious event. Call Jan Botha on 082-290-4025 to enter this event, which is not a race but a fun event to honour those who are living, died or are survivors of cancer. RWFL challenges all schools, clubs, companies, school sports teams and families to put teams together.

The Totalsports women’s race is a pre-entry only at Totalsports shops or online.

This weekend, there is no Saturday training run and no Sunday races.

On Monday, 16 June, the Mayors 21.1km and 10km ‘fight against crime and drugs’ event takes place at Lahee Park. For more details, call Thapelo Marumo on 072-838-7947.
