Toti Canoe Club members are gearing up to host two prestigious races next month.

On Sunday, 1 June at 9am the club will host the Five Beaches surf ski race.

“This is a downwind race which finishes at Toti lagoon,” said chairman, Mark Pontes. “Depending on the wind on the day, it will either start from the Umkomaas River mouth or Ansteys Beach on the Bluff, and finish at the beach in front of Toti Lagoon.

If the race starts at Umkomaas, then paddlers are required to come in at Karridene, Winkle Beach and Warner Beach, before finishing at Toti lagoon.”

Food and drinks will be on sale at the new Toti canoe clubhouse and everyone is welcome.

On Sunday, 29 June at 9am, the club hosts the Rho Tech downwind race. The start is also from either Umkomaas or Ansteys Beach. For this race however, paddlers are not required to come in at any of the beaches.

On Friday, 23 May, the club hosts it annual general meeting. The club will also host its prizegiving, followed by a bring-and-braai,” said Mark. “All ex-members are invited to attend the AGM to discuss the situation regarding the water hyacinth and water quality problems we are experience with the Toti River and the future of the club.”
