Shottists help KZN team to podium place

Enrico Boaga was oldest competitor at 76-years-old.

Toti shottists helped the KZN team to a third place in the SA Pistol Association national champs in Cape Town from 28 April to 2 May.

Daniel Mngoma, Enrico Boaga and Dave Campbell, all members of the Poinsettia Pistol Club in Toti, returned with bronze medals after an excellent showing at the inter-provincials.

In the 50 yard event, Enrico shot himself into sixth place, which qualified him for the president’s cup shootout and the international Mayleigh Cup challenge. This helped him earn his Protea half-colours. He also claimed top individual results, winning gold, silver and bronze medals in various events.

Dave won a silver medal in the sport pistol, with his score the third highest overall.

“This year’s Mayleigh Cup international challenge, usually contested between USA, Canada, Britian, Australia and South Africa, was a memorable event,” said Dave, who is also the secretary of the Natal Pistol Association.

For the first time ever, a father-and-son team, Francois and Danie van Tonder earned their Protea half-colours. Danie was the youngest ever competitor at the Mayleigh challenge, while our own Enrico was the oldest at 76-years.”
