Tag rugby kicks off on Toti beach

Tag rugby has hit KZN and it was kicked off in Toti.

Over the Easter weekend, the Fan Foundation Tag Rugby Association hosted a beach tag rugby clinic, followed by a tournament.

“Our association has a wonderful working relationship with the Sharks Rugby Union, especially Quentin Reynolds and Ntso Mkhwanazi. We have adopted two schools in the South Coast area and the timing of the event was superb. We thank all involved as the tag rugby bug has certainly bit on the South Coast and in KZN,” said executive director of the Tag Rugby Association, Stuart McConnell.

On the Saturday there were six mixed adult teams and four development teams entered in the free tournament, after being introduced to the rules during a clinic. This was followed on the Sunday with a mix of junior and adult teams playing games in a round robin format.

“Thank you to the Oppi Beach organisers for the invite to run the tag rugby tournament next to theirs,” said Charl Jansen van Rensburg of the association.”The standard of play was very good, considering many of the players were playing for the first time. It was great the Sharks Rugby Union invited some local schools to the event. This was our first tag rugby beach event in KZN and we would love it to become a regular item on the KZN South Coast calendar. This event has shown there is a great need for this sort of activity,” said Charl.

Sponsors are needed to adopt development teams. For more details on anything related to Tag Rugby in KZN, follow them on twitter @tagrugbykzn or email matthew@taggroup.co.za.
