Delysia, Jane and Tokkie aim high for PN qualifying masters bowls

The women’s monthly trips was cancelled because of rain, and Maureen Warrior won the 100 board.

THREE Amanzimtoti Bowling Club women have been chosen to take part in the Port Natal qualifying masters.

Well done to Delysia Mitchley, Jane Coetzee and Tokkie de Kock.

The club wishes them all the best.

The Easter tournament was a great success and the players enjoyed beautiful weather for the two days. Well done to the winning team of Jerry Gertzen, Adie Fuller, Jenny Greenslade, Dave Kemp and Peter Snyman. The runners-up were Barbara Beamson, Noreen Butler, Robbie Roberts, Mike Groom, Amanda Ninow and Margaret van Belkum. In third place were Coy Schrauwen, Duncan Wright, Michelle Pitchers, Barry Buckland, Kokkie de Kock and Alec Stirzaker. The 100 board was won by Ian Shearer and the whisky draw by Maggie Robertson.

Women’s singles competitions are underway. In the senior singles, Pam Chalder-Royle beat Jennifer Greenslade; in the handicap singles, Linda McGregor defeated Talla Stephens-Viviers; and in a very close game in the open singles, Liz Morgan-Davies beat Jackie Holdrick by one shot in the 26th end. In the men’s drawn pairs, Greg McLeod and Dennie Denyschen overcame Jerry Gertzen and Sean Roberts.

In the men’s nominated 2-4-2, the winners were Glen Scorgie and Alec Stirzaker. In second place on a count out were Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder. The second session was won by Herbert Hoffman and Das Veldsman. The women’s monthly trips was cancelled because of rain, and Maureen Warrior won the 100 board.

All roads lead to ABC on the morning of Sunday, 27 April, where the last 16 teams in the Oppenheimer mixed pairs will compete, including two Toti teams. Go along and give all the players your support in the shade of the club’s new verandah and braai area. The bar and kitchen will be open, so why not make a day of it?

The monthly quiz night was well attended in spite of the rain. For the second month in succession the Presidents came out on top, and in the individual question, Scorgie scooped the cash prize once again. Join in on the third Wednesday of each month, and pit your wits against the best.

Remember to put your names down for the Annual Spade Day on 1 May, which promises to be a fun day with lots of prizes. Check the board for carded games and upcoming events.

Birthday greetings this week go to Michelle Pitchers, Mary Crichton, Julie Sutherland, Ann Myburgh, Gaynor Snyman, Ron Greenslade and Dallas Davis. The club wishes all members the best of health and good bowling.
