Michelle Richards sets possible new record with 26.46kg wahoo
THE Upper South Coast team of Michelle Richards, Candice Coetzer and captain Chris Diedericks won the 2014 Interzonal Natal Deep Sea Angling Association (NDSAA) game fish tournament, hosted by Pennington Ski-Boat Club from 20 to 23 March.
The proud trio walked off with first place and gold medals in the tournament, which was based on SADSAA/IGFA rules for all participating anglers.
Michelle Richards and Candice Coetzer, who both have their NDSAA colours, put in their nominations forms to fish the tournament via Warnadoone Ski-Boat Club and were successfully selected to represent the Upper South Coast zone.
Briefing was held on the Thursday evening and all the anglers were kitted out in their ‘step out’ NDSAA uniform.
The daily scores for the Upper South Coast team of Michelle and Candice were:
Friday: Sixth place with 13.32 points (first place points standing at 36.75).
Saturday: Third place with 45.23 points (first place points standing at 124.67).
Sunday: First place with 476.95 points.
On Sunday, Michelle and Candice managed to catch three species of fish, bonita, cuta and wahoo, which escalated their points.
The wahoo, weighing 26.46kg, was caught by Michelle and secured their first place position.
Michelle’s wahoo has a pending SADSAA and Africa record. It was caught on 10kg line as per IGFA rules.
Once the line has been tested by the authorities, confirmation will be placed on record.
Michelle and Candice are proud of their achievements and enjoy deep sea fishing to the fullest with the support of their husbands, who are also avid fishermen.
