Heavy sledging and intimidation downs young ACC 4ths

All the bowlers contributed with the ball, Renier 6 overs 3/14

ON Sunday, 16 February Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s 4ths played against Chesterville 1st team at Toti 2.

The Chesterville skipper won the toss and elected to bat first.

They started off with a bang but the Toti bowlers were fired up for the challenge and worked hard in the hot February heat, restricting Chesterville to 144 all out. All the bowlers contributed with the ball, Renier 6 overs 3/14, David 5 overs 3/22, TP 6 overs 2/42 and Roald 6 overs 2/52.

During the change of innings, the intimidation and talk started by Chesterville as they took bets with the Toti supporters that they will bowl their team out for under 50 runs.

As soon as the Toti openers Renier and TP reached the crease, the mouths of every single Chesterville fielder opened and the sledging and abuse started. Again the opening stand was solid with a 40 run stand before Renier nicked off to the keeper for 22. The chirping got to the Toti youngsters as Re-Juan (0), Roald (0), Quinton (0) and TP (15) all got out in the space of four overs.

Johan got to the crease and, together with Dean (8) and David (7), started building the innings again but wickets fell quickly due to the intimidation tactics of the opposition on the batsman and umpires. Donald (0), Eben (0) and Pieter (0) left Johan unbeaten on 26 and Toti all out for 106. Special thanks to all the supporters and to Gerda for scoring.

Best batsman was awarded to Johan, best bowler to David and the ‘thanks for coming’ went to Pieter, who accepted the award with honour.
