Naickers show UGC golfer how it’s done

It was also nice to see Etienne Botha and son, Steven again after a rather long absence.

NOW that all the holidaymakers, visiting families and friends have all returned to their respective homes after a great festive holiday at the South Coast, all the locals can now return to their own lives, getting back to work, children back to school and so on.

The ‘silly season’ was quite a good one for Umkomaas Golf Club with welcome rain as this report is being written.

Neither Tim nor Garth played this weekend, Tim is still nursing his injury (and enjoying his new daughter) we hope that Garth is playing again soon – it does make the week more interesting to report.

Wednesday was a swelteringly hot day when the individual stableford was played, where a warm welcome was extended to former member Alan Green from Pretoria, who is down on holiday. Once again, Barrie Taylor scooped the first prize with 40 points, counting out Rob Finlay into second place also with 40 points. In third spot was Roddy Mc Gibbon on 39 points followed by Neil Thompson in fourth place, counting out Andy Davidge into fifth spot, both on 36 points.

On Saturday, also in rather warm weather, the fourball better ball stableford was played. Club captain, Peter Toward welcomed Jack Singery and Michael van Rensburg to the competition at prize-giving.

It was also nice to see Etienne Botha and son, Steven again after a rather long absence.

In the driving seat last weekend was young Tash Naicker and his uncle Dean Naicker, showing everyone how it’s done by shooting 51 points between them and taking the first prize. In second place was Rob Mathias and Hans Beuthe trailing by three shots on 48 points, followed closely by Eric Morsner and Neville Thompson in third spot with 47 points.

The jackpot was shared between Tash Naicker and Neville Thompson, both on 11 points, with Mike Cromhout finding the hidden birdie on the very quiet seventh hole. The attendance draw was scooped up by Steven Botha, just for being at the club.

Dates to diarise: Wednesday, 22 January is the first Weiss VW sponsored day and the second one of the month is on Saturday, 25 January, which will be a fourball alliance. Put your names down early for Saturday, these sponsor days fill up fairly quickly.
