Exciting win for Malinki, Jane, Maxien, Michelle

In the men’s competitions Adie Fuller beat Ray Robinson in an open singles game.

THE 2014 competitions are now well underway at Toti Bowling Club.

In the first round of the women’s drawn fours, Malinki van der Westhuizen, Jane Coetzee, Maxien Barnes and Michelle Pitchers had an exciting game against Heather Brown’s team of Jeanne Alexander, Marie van der Walt and Molly Maughan.

After being behind at half time, Malinki’s team caught up to be even on the second last end, and then won by a single shot on the final end. Well done to both teams on a hard-fought game.

Also coming from behind to win was the team of Mardi Dovale, Amanda Ninow, Leonie Mills and Christine Darley, who played Julie Sutherland, Denise Bingham, Lynn Joubert and Jackie Holdrick. The team of Delysia Mitchley, Jenny Delport, Maggie Robertson and Bernie Bretherton were not so lucky, and had a narrow loss against Marion Crouch, Marilyn Thiart, Di Robinson and Betty Sawyer.

Delysia Mitchley had more success in the third round of the women’s drawn trips with her team of Jeanne Alexander and Tokkie de Kock, beating Nola Corrigall, Leonie Mills and Nicky Stirzaker. In the third round of the women’s drawn pairs Robyn Hutton and Lee Jordan won against Heather Brown and Linda McGregor.

In the men’s competitions Adie Fuller beat Ray Robinson in an open singles game, and Doug Joubert, John Mitchley and Eric Klopper had a win against Vince Phaal, Andrew Walker and Carl van Heerden in nominated trips.

In nominated pairs Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder scored a ‘perfect eight’ in their win against Jerry Gertzen and Neville Roscoe, while Chris Whitlock and Tommy Corrigall beat their opponents Andrew Walker and Carl van Heerden.

Heather Brown and Amanda Ninow were the winners of the women’s 2-4-2 monthly competition, with Marion Crouch and Adrienne Robbins runners up. The second session prize was taken by Bessie Vergottini and Norma Raath, and the 100’s draw went to Yvonne Wright.

At TGIF Talla Viviers was the lucky winner of the meat, while John Mitchley and Ian Crouch won the wine. Maureen van der Schyff (tab seven) was not present to win the attendance draw, so the next draw will be for R450. However, this will only take place on Friday, 28 February, after the potato trips have concluded.

Birthday greetings go out this week to Ron Blumfield, Tiny Boyder and Ruth de Canha, and members who are not well are wished a speedy return to health.

A reminder that the potato trips will start at 5pm on Friday, 17 January, and on Saturday, 18 January four teams will play their games for the women’s drawn trips and the women’s drawn fours. Men’s open singles are carded for Saturday, 18 January as well, and big chicks will play on Sunday, January.

Finally, on a very sad note, the club lost a well-known member this week with the death of Mike Dovale. Members’ thoughts and prayers go out to Mardi and the family in this trying time.
