Toti CCC looks forward to a cracker centenary year

On Saturday the women and men played their first medal fixture of the year.

A NEW year dawns, bringing with it Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy’s centenary year.

One hundred years ago a group of enthusiasts joined together in establishing the club, and this milestone is worthy of celebration.

A smallish group of members started the festivities in fine style on the first day of 2014, with a social game of golf followed by an even more social braai. Many more of these events will be planned during the course of the year, and it would be lovely to see all members and friends joining in to toast our wonderful club.

Friday’s Sundowner meat competition had a superb field of 46 players, and it would appear that nothing has changed – Jorgie Jorgensen got a head-start on building up his freezer stocks with an impressive 22 points over the nine holes, oco from Frikkie van Vuuren. Gerry Motley took third spot on 19 points from Brian Aldgate by virtue of a count out, and Brian Stewart came in fifth on 18 points, also on a count out.

On Saturday the women and men played their first medal fixture of the year. Delene Berry took the honours in the silver division with a solid 75 nett, followed by Brenda Morgan on 77 nett.

Ina de Boer had a cracker of a round, shooting 69 nett, with Colleen Smit in second spot on 72 nett. Least number of putts went to Brenda with 29 putts, and Elsune Roode picked up the nearest the pin on the 7th. Format for this coming Saturday is three-ball alliance, choose your own partners.

The men’s A division was won by Faraan Khader, which is a very interesting result indeed. Faraan shot 75 nett 68 to pip Colin Scorer into second place by count out. The B division was won by Rex Parsons on 80 nett 64 – superb results which will no doubt have the afternoon field muttering about ‘better conditions in the morning’. Second in the B division was Mike Halse on 80 nett 69. FYI, Mike played in the afternoon.

Andy Walters won the C division with 95 nett 70, with Buff Berry taking second spot on 91 nett 71. Best gross on the day was Mike Dunlop with 72, and Rex Parsons won best nett with his superb 64.

Nearest the pins on the 7th and 17th respectively were Callum Haggie and Willem van Deventer. The jackpot carries over to next week as does the attendance draw, courtesy of Dr Mkhize leaving the club before prize-giving.

The course has been very busy with all the visitors who have taken advantage of its stunning facilities, but it would be lovely to get a bit of rain as the heat is taking its toll on the fairways and greens. An amazing fact, as I wrote that line the heavens just opened up and dropped the first raindrops of the New Year.

Contact the pro shop on 031-902-1166 to book a tee off time.

To all members, supporters and regular visitors, all the best for the year ahead. May your drives fly straight and all your putts drop.
