Hard fought win for Toti’s young 4th cricket side

ON Sunday, 1 December Toti’s fourth cricket side played against Hillary Malvern five at the Amanzimtoti Cricket Club oval at the golf course.

The toss was won by Toti and the opposition were asked to bat, in a decision that had nothing to do with the pitch but everything to do with the cloudy overhead conditions and humidity.
From the first over, it was evident that the pitch had demons of its own to throw at the batsmen, as the ball stuck to the wet pitch, causing the bounce to be slow and uneven, with balls popping up from a good length.
All the Toti bowlers used the pitch well and with the fielders taking some brilliant catches, Hillary were bowled out for 55 in 17.5 overs. Top three scores for Hillary Malvern were 16, 8 and 6 respectively. Wicket-takers were Sheldon, four for three in three overs; Ryan, three for 8 in 2.5 overs; Roald, 2 for 10 in three overs and Renier one for 10 in three overs.
Toti started the chase with nothing changing in the pitch condition. With stroke play hard and some heavy sledging from the Hillary players toward the Toti youngsters, it was always going to be difficult.
Toti lost wickets at regular intervals but Kershlin was adamant to stay at the crease and to see the side home. Ryan came to the crease and showed that it actually was an easy game by smashing a huge six over long-on for the winning runs. Toti scored 59 for 6 in 22.3 overs, thus winning by four wickets. Run scorers Kershlin 16 not out, Ryan 7 not out, Roald 7, Re-Juan, Sheldon and Brandon 5 and Renier 1.
Kershlin was awarded batsman of the day, Sheldon bowler of the day, Millo got the TFC (thanks for coming) award and due to the fact that batting was very hard, Kershlin was awarded the man of the match award.
