Most improved skater hopes to continue the trend

Toti ice skater Jolandri Cilliers (12), a grade 6 pupil at Kuswag School is hard at work practising for an inter-provincial tournament in Cape Town from 11 to 13 October.

Jolandri, who is a member of the Seals Ice Skating Club based at Galleria Ice Rink recently came first in the Natal championship in Durban and was presented with the most promising trophy. She also competed and won at an inter-provincial tournament in Gauteng. “I was very excited to win at the Natal championship and at the inter-provincials,” she said. “It was a surprise to get the most promising trophy.

I think I’m going to do great at the upcoming Cape Town inter-provincials. I’m working hard towards a third place.”
Jolandri started skating in Pretoria at the age of three-and-a-half-years-old. When she moved to Harrismith she was forced to give up her sport until she relocated to Toti three years ago. “I was really happy to be skating again. I enjoy living in Toti with the beach and the ice rink.”
Jolandri also enjoys netball, athletics and swiming. “But ice skating is my favourite. I enjoy doing spins, jumps and the footwork, and listening to the music while I do it.”
She will compete in Cape Town as an individual, in pairs with her 16-year-old partner Blaze Green and in synchro together with her 16 senior teammates in the Toti club, of which she is the youngest.
Jolandri is passionate about her skating, but she needs help to continue competing. If you can help with sponsorship, contact her mother Heidi on 072-123-4891.
